Frequently Asked Questions – VINO ProTank™

For the curious, the driven, the progressive... doing more with less

Skeptical? Good. Here are the real answers to the tough cellar questions.

That’s the trap. Neutral barrels look cheap but actually cost more in labour, topping, cellar
space, and lost time. VINO ProTank™ frees you from all that while giving you fresher,
faster, more consistent results.

Not at all. We use real French oak inserts – and because the wine sees 100% of this new oak
every year, you actually get more control and more impact than you would from tired wood,
and you have the flexibility to use as much or as little as you like.

If it was just a tank, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. VINO ProTank™ is an economic
All-in-One solution engineered for aging: airtight seal, slope-bottom drainage, consistent
oxygenation. Think of it as the next evolution of the barrel, not a substitute.

We stopped donating wine to the angels years ago. With VINO ProTank™,
there’s no evaporation, no topping headaches, and no spoilage. Every litre you make is a
litre you can sell.

It protects rather than compromises the vineyard and winemaking efforts to enhance quality as
the failure point of the lid sealing has been overcome and has a replacement performance
warranty.

The stackable aspect enables topping in situ — barrels stack together with sampling taps,
eliminating the need to pull apart barrel stacks every 6–8 weeks just to sample, top, or
access lids.

Faster aging cycles aided by much higher rates of oxygenation mean the wine is released
sooner. The forkliftable and stackable design saves valuable cellar space. Cleaning takes
minutes, not hours.

It’s lightweight, can be stored dry (and even outside if needed), and instead of replacing
barrels every few years, you get 20+ years of effective lifespan. That adds
up fast.

Industry insights show the market is divided into luxury, premium, and
commercial segments. Barrels are especially problematic for the premium
segment, which is seven times larger in volume than the luxury category.

Most of the industry’s aging discussion focuses on the small fraction of new barrels (≈5%),
which mainly benefit luxury wines ($60+ RRP per bottle). These barrels eventually cascade
down to the underserved premium market ($20–$60 RRP), which faces severe economic pressure
and is crucial to winery viability.

This premium segment suffers from a new-oak deficit and over-reliance on neutral
barrels—sacrificing quality and devaluing the investment made in top-quality grapes. Using a
VINO ProTank™ offers outstanding aging performance and better value for the
highly competitive premium segment, delivering superior wines with greater consumer appeal.

Tradition is powerful. Neutral barrels are familiar – even if they’re inefficient and a false
economy. But the wineries leading the shift aren’t waiting. They’re pulling ahead on
quality, costs, and cashflow to offer outstanding value at premium RRP price points and
outmanoeuvre competitors.

Structural change is well underway as neutral barrels are simply not viable and inevitably
fewer are used. Likewise, fewer new traditional barrels are needed, which changes new oak
programs and long-term plans.

Not at all. Many start by retiring neutrals in cascading barrels over a 3–4 year cycle, then
blend VINO ProTank™ aged wines with their new oak barrels. Once they see
the payoff, they scale up.

Progressive winemakers are introducing them gradually by retiring the annual cascade in a 3–4
year rotation cycle.

Totes make harvest worse – flat bottoms mean tilting, propping, and wasted gallons.
VINO ProTank™’s sloped floor and sump drain cleanly — every drop, every
time.

Less mess, less stress, less strain, more cellar zen.

Yes. Our hermetic seal lid keeps oxygen out and freshness in. Fill it full and store wine
safely for weeks or months – even up to a year (wine dependent).

Totes and other tanks start spoiling in days. Our consistent breathability with controlled
one-way oxygen promise preserves quality and prevents spoilage degradation.

Most do. That’s why we built VINO ProTank™ differently. Our licensed Model
1430 hermetic lid is the only truly airtight seal on the market — no leaks, no silent
oxidation, no creeping spoilage.

The HDPE polymer is completely safe, BPA-free, has no association with phthalates, and is
widely accepted in the industry for wine-safe applications.

A long-life, unique range of stackers and cylinders designed with functional features that
offer flexibility, durability, and versatility — available in a variety of sizes and
purposes from 50 to 300 US gallons.

  • Stackers: 240G (≈900L) and 300G (≈1130L) sizes, in two polymer
thicknesses — Aging Weight and Storage Weight — enabling different oxygenation rates.
  • Cylinders: ≈59G (225L Bordeaux Barrique) and ≈79G (300L Hogs Head
Barrel), both available in Aging [White] and Aging [Red] models.

It is a choice of two wall thickness options allowing different rates of one-way
breathability in the same design. ‘Storage’ is a thicker wall and simulates a typical
neutral barrel slow oxygenation rate.

‘Aging’ is a thinner wall and has 2–3 times the oxygenation rate of one-way breathability
compared to neutral barrels (depending on barrel condition and age). This shortens the aging
cycle, enabling tanks to be ready for the next vintage sooner and wine ready for release
earlier.

This benefits cashflow, asset utilisation, and payback – all part of the lower aging cost per
litre for years to come.

Exactly. It gives you neutral barrel replacement (with fresher, faster results) plus the
flexibility of a small tank without the leaks or chaos.

Multiple problems solved economically — an ‘All-in-One’ solution tailored to specific needs.
Provides year-round flexibility, perennial consistency, and a long effective lifespan.

Totes leak oxygen and spoil wine in days. VINO ProTank™’s airtight seal and
consistent oxygenation preserve freshness, keep SO₂ stable, and ensure your wine reaches the
market earlier, brighter, and more appealing.

Fewer headaches. Less topping. Faster cleaning. Stackable storage. Year-round efficiency and
versatility. And 20+ years of lifespan.

Adds up to 50% more volume capacity within the same cellar space. VINO
ProTank™
isn’t just cellar gear – it’s peace of mind for every vintage that
rewards your efforts.

Neutral barrels are a false economy. The analogy is the $1 house in rural France or Italy –
you take on the liability. The same applies to the neutral barrel.

It slows oxygenation, erodes quality, exposes microbiological loading, triggers extra
blending and double handling, is labour intensive, adds more waste, occupies space, and
requires wet indoor storage. It’s also less safe.

These inefficiencies undermine all upstream efforts in vineyard and winemaking. As fewer new
traditional barrels are purchased, cascading barrel programs become unbalanced, leaving a
large tail of costly, ineffective neutral barrels that erode quality and are uneconomic to
maintain.

Check fill height every 4–8 weeks and ensure no air gap, as thermal expansion or contraction
always occurs with wine temperature changes.

Check and adjust SO₂ levels as you would in a traditional barrel (typically every 4–8 weeks).
If there are signs of reductivity, rack and return as you would in a traditional barrel.

Within 2 weeks of filling, the VINO ProTank™ may need topping, as the
polymer walls will initially stretch. If the wine is undergoing primary or malolactic
fermentation, it must be vented. Ensure it is completely full at all times – the same as a
traditional barrel.

awkward loans, no chasing invoices. Stress-free cashflow that fits real wineries.

VINO ProTank is a hybrid barrel that nurtures your wine to an upgrade quality vintage after
vintage with 20+years lifespan. Overuse of neutral traditional barrels inhibits wine aging,
often causing wine downgrades and taking longer. A false economy. Incurs unnecessary labour
costs and erodes quality.
